Leonid Afremov (b.1955)
Bravo, 2010, oil on canvas.
Leonid Afremov was born in city of Vitebsk (Belarus), amazingly enough in the same town as Marc Chagall who founded the Vitebsk Art School along with Malevich and Kandinsky. Afremov graduated from this Art School and is one of its elite members. In 1990s he moved to the USA, now resides in Mexico. Afremov’s paintings are often vividly-coloured landscapes, cityscapes and figures, and are typically painted using a palette knife and oil paint. His work has been greatly influenced by contemporary cityscape impressionist Michael Flohr.
