Francis Picabia was a French painter, poet, and typographist, associated with both the Dada and Surrealist art movements. He started with painting landscapes in the manner of impressionists. Then, influenced by Fauvism and Cubism, he tried to combine both movements and created bright-colored Cubists pictures unlike the monotone paintings of Cubism founders. In 1915 Picabia, together with Marcel Duchamp and painters of American Avant-garde movement, formed the NY society of Dadaists.
